Multiplies an amount by the ratio between two currency codes using a rate table that ships with the page. The table carries more than 160 codes, is stamped with the date the rates were downloaded, and the arithmetic is one multiplication printed to four decimal places. Nothing is fetched when you press Convert.
How to use it
- Enter an amount - the box starts at 100.
- Pick the From and To codes, or press the swap button between them to reverse the direction.
- Press Convert. The four-decimal figure lands in the Result box, and Copy Output copies it.
Worked example
100 USD, From USD, To EURbecomes87.8683Computed as 100 x (0.878683 / 1): the baked table gives EUR a rate of 0.878683 against a USD base of 1.
250 GBP, From GBP, To JPYbecomes52444.9173250 x (158.686572 / 0.756444), using the same dated snapshot.
When to use it
- Pricing something roughly before you open a bank or card app.
- Converting a figure on a machine that is offline or that you would rather not point at a rates API.
- Sanity-checking a total you were quoted in a foreign currency.
What it does not do
- The rates are a snapshot taken at build time, not live ticks. The Refresh Rates button only reloads the same bundled JSON, and bringing in newer numbers means rebuilding the site.
- The dropdowns offer 32 codes even though the underlying file has many more, so most of the table is unreachable from the interface.
- The result is always four decimal places, so a USD to BTC conversion of 1.00 prints as 0.0000.
- There is no spread, fee, or card mark-up modelling - the raw mid-market ratio is all you get.
