Base64 Decoder: related tools
Turns Base64 text back into the original string. It runs the browser's own atob and then re-reads the resulting bytes as UTF-8, so accented letters and emoji survive the round trip. The decoding happens inside the page and the encoded value is not sent anywhere.
Base64 Decoder: how to use it
- Paste the Base64 into the input box - trailing padding with = is fine to include.
- Press Decode.
- Read the plain text in the output box.
- Copy Output to take it elsewhere.
Base64 Decoder: worked example
SGVsbG8sIFdvcmxkIQ==becomesHello, World!Y2Fmw6k=becomescaféThe escape/decodeURIComponent step is what makes UTF-8 work here; a bare atob would show café.
Base64 Decoder: when to use it
- Reading a token, header value or config entry that another system handed you in Base64.
- Decoding a data string a colleague pasted into a ticket.
- Recovering the original text of a UTF-8 payload such as an accented name.
Base64 Decoder: what it does not do
- It decodes only. To go the other way use the Base64 Encoder, since there is no mode switch on this page.
- It assumes the payload really is UTF-8 text. Base64 of an image, a zip or other binary decodes into unusable characters rather than a file.
- The decode is forgiving in the browser's way: whitespace is ignored and missing padding is tolerated, so a value that is not strictly valid Base64 can still produce output with no warning.
- A character outside the Base64 alphabet throws a raw InvalidCharacterError, which is shown as the browser message rather than a note about where the bad character is.
