Word Wrap reflows text into lines no wider than a width you choose. Put a bare two-or-more-digit number on the first line to set the width, between 10 and 500; without it the tool wraps at 80. Wrapping is greedy, fitting whole words onto a line where they fit, and any word longer than the width is cut at the boundary rather than left to overflow. Line breaks already in the text act as paragraph boundaries.
How to use it
- Paste the text into the Input box.
- Optional: make the first line just the width, for example 40, with the text starting on the second line.
- Press Process and copy the wrapped lines.
Worked example
40
This is a long line that has to be wrapped.becomesThis is a long line that has to be
wrapped. The first line is read as the width and is not part of the wrapped text.
When to use it
- Formatting an email body or a commit message to 72 columns.
- Preparing plain text for a fixed-width terminal, a README code block or a printed card.
- Re-wrapping a paragraph that came out of a PDF as one very long line.
What it does not do
- A first line of two or more digits is always consumed as the width, so text that genuinely begins with a number, such as a year, loses that line.
- The width must be the whole first line and at least two digits: 40 sets 40 columns, 9 is treated as text and the default 80 applies, and a value above 500 raises an error.
- Words longer than the width - long URLs, hashes, unbroken identifiers - are hard-split mid-token, which can break a link.
- Existing line breaks are kept as paragraph boundaries rather than joined, so already hard-wrapped text is not re-flowed into longer lines.
