Parses a URL with the browser's URL class and reports every component, then goes one step further than the URL Parse tool by expanding the query string into decoded key=value pairs on a Search Params line. Fields covered are protocol, host, hostname, port, pathname, search, hash, username, password and origin, each on its own labelled line. It is a read-only inspection step performed inside the tab.
How to use it
- Enter a full URL with its scheme in the Input box.
- Press Process.
- Read the field list, then the Search Params line at the bottom for the individual query pairs.
Worked example
https://example.com:8080/p?q=1#hbecomesProtocol: https:
Host: example.com:8080
Hostname: example.com
Port: 8080
Pathname: /p
Search: ?q=1
Hash: #h
Username:
Password:
Origin: https://example.com:8080
Search Params: q=1the last line is what separates this tool from URL Parse
https://example.com/a?tag=one&tag=two&q=%20xbecomesSearch: ?tag=one&tag=two&q=%20x
Search Params: tag=one, tag=two, q= xrepeated keys are listed twice and values are percent-decoded once, so %20 becomes a space
When to use it
- A tracking or campaign link has a long query string and you want the parameter list as readable pairs.
- You are checking that a form submission produced the parameter names you expected before wiring up a backend.
- You need both the raw encoded Search string and the decoded values side by side to spot a double-encoding bug.
What it does not do
- Parameters are printed as a flat 'key=value' list separated by commas, so a value that itself contains a comma is ambiguous to read; there is no table or JSON output.
- Only the first layer of decoding is applied. A value encoded twice still shows its remaining escapes on the Search Params line.
- A URL without a scheme throws 'Invalid URL'; this parser does not accept relative paths or fill in a base.
- Unlike the URL Parse tool it finds nothing extra for a URL with no query string - the line reads 'Search Params: none'.
