When to use it
- Judging whether a paragraph is too dense for a general audience.
- Checking syllable and sentence counts against an editorial readability target.
- Getting a rough difficulty score before publishing marketing or documentation copy.
What it does not do
- Syllables are estimated by counting vowel groups after dropping a silent trailing e, so words such as queue or rhythm are mis-counted and the Flesch score drifts.
- Sentences are counted by splitting on . ! and ?, and the count never drops below 1, so a single heading with no full stop still reports one sentence.
- This tool covers syllables and readability. For reading time, speaking time and keyword frequency use the Text Analyzer instead.
- It measures the raw text you paste, so markdown markers, HTML tags and code identifiers are all counted as ordinary words.
