Reformats an international phone number into seven layout variants. A leading 00 is rewritten to a plus, the input is then stripped of whitespace, hyphens, parentheses and dots, and what remains must look like a plus followed by 7 to 15 digits. Those digits are sliced into fixed templates for E.164, three US and Canada styles, a UK style and a raw digit string.
How to use it
- Paste the number with a leading plus, such as '+44 20 7946 0958', or with a leading 00.
- Press Process.
- Copy Output takes all seven padded lines in one go.
Worked example
0015551234567becomesE.164 : +155****4567
International : +155****4567
US/Canada (dashed) : +1 555-123-4567
US/Canada (dots) : +1.555.123.4567
US/Canada (spaces) : +1 555 123 4567
UK : +44 55 123 4567
Raw digits : 15551234567The leading 00 is rewritten to +, so the eleven digits go into the templates as a US number and the US rows read cleanly.
+1 555-123-4567becomesE.164 : +155****4567
International : +155****4567
US/Canada (dashed) : +1 555-123-4567
US/Canada (dots) : +1.555.123.4567
US/Canada (spaces) : +1 555 123 4567
UK : +44 55 123 4567
Raw digits : 15551234567The leading plus is kept and the separators removed, so the same digits give the same table as the 00-prefixed form.
When to use it
- Normalising numbers collected from a contact form into one storage format before they reach a database.
- Producing a dialable E.164 string from a number someone wrote out with spaces and brackets.
- Showing a teammate how the US and UK groupings differ for the same digit string.
What it does not do
- A leading plus is required, or a leading 00 which is rewritten to one. A bare digit string such as 15551234567 fails the test.
- Only two of the seven lines use your digits as typed. The US and UK rows drop fixed offsets into the same string, so a UK number produces '+1 420-794-60958' as its 'US' form and a US number produces '+44 55 123 4567' as its 'UK' form.
- Any 7 to 15 digit input passes, whether or not the country code exists and whether or not the line is assigned; there is no validation beyond the digit count.
- Letters and other punctuation are neither removed nor mapped to digits, so '1-800-FLOWERS', extension numbers and short codes fail the test.
