Parses pasted CSV and re-emits only the columns you ask for, in the order you name them. The first line carries the instruction, either select: city, name or drop: age, and the rest of the text is the CSV itself. Columns can be given by name or by zero-based index, quoted fields containing commas survive the round trip, and on output a value is re-quoted only when it holds a comma, a quote or a newline. Parsing and output happen in the page.
How to use it
- Put select: or drop: followed by column names on the first line.
- Paste the CSV underneath it.
- Press Process and copy the text after the --- CSV output --- marker.
Worked example
select: city, name
name,age,city
John,30,NYC
Jane,25,LAbecomesColumns available: 0=name, 1=age, 2=city
Selected 2 of 3 columns.
Rows: 2
--- CSV output ---
city,name
NYC,John
LA,Jane
Tip: use "select: name, email" or "drop: id" as the FIRST line to filter. The instruction line is consumed, so it never appears in the output, and the header order follows the order you listed the names in.
drop: age
name,age,city
John,30,NYC
Jane,25,LAbecomesColumns available: 0=name, 1=age, 2=city
Dropped 1, kept 2.
Rows: 2
--- CSV output ---
name,city
John,NYC
Jane,LA
Tip: use "select: name, email" or "drop: id" as the FIRST line to filter.drop: keeps the remaining columns in their original order rather than the order they were named.
When to use it
- An importer expects three columns and the export you have contains twenty.
- Two systems need the same fields in a different order.
- You want one column out of a pasted table without opening a spreadsheet.
What it does not do
- The whole file goes through a single text area, so this suits pasted samples and modest files rather than multi-megabyte exports.
- The instruction has to be the first line and has to be written select: or drop: with the colon; anything else, including SELECT name, is read as your header row and shifts the table.
- It moves columns, it does not change them. There is no renaming, no type conversion and no de-duplication.
